When creating a digital space for climbers around the world, I need to create a brand that relates to climbs around the world. How do I accomplish that? And how does this identity system apply to the UI UX design of the app?
An all-in-one climbing app—focusing on indoor climbing—for membership management, keeping up with friends, training, community, and more!
The problem right now in the world of climbing apps is that a majority of people do not use them. The consensus from a survey I took seems to be that most climbers don't feel a need to “track” their climbs, especially those in the intermediate level of climbing. However, I have noticed that quite a few people do enjoy watching and sharing their climbing videos; along with asking questions and for help. The community is really supportive—one r/bouldering post asking for advice on how to improve based on a video garnered 90 comments after less than 24 hours. But you don’t get that sort of support consistently online.
"ABP needs Kaya"
"ABP has Kaya"
"Yeah but no one uses it"
Another major problem I've noticed is how roundabout it is to manage your memberships: how much are you paying a month; if you're traveling for a month, how do you freeze your membership; if you're getting a student discount, why do you have to email someone outside of the form? There's a bit of friction when it comes to managing your membership.
- ABP (Austin Bouldering Project) - my local bouldering gym in Austin, TX
- beta - the way to complete a route based on the way the route setters intended
- bouldering - climbing with no rope or harness—typically only up to 12 ft
- Kaya - a climbing app to help climbers
- a route - a path on the wall with the goal to get from start to finish using only that path
- a send - a completion of a route
